How to suggest courses of action.

 

Look at the following ways of making suggestions:

 

 

I would suggest DOING

(Surely) it would be* a good idea if X DID

Wouldn’t it be** good if X DID

(Surely) X could DO

I would (only) suggest that X should DO <rather formal>

X clearly has the responsibility to DO <rather formal: strong>

It is time X DID <strong>

 

*Other words can be used here, e.g. ...more sensible, advantageous.

** Other phrases can be used here, e.g. ...safer, sensible, more intelligent, etc.

Traffic has become a major problem in most big cities. Below are some suggestions for solving the problem.
